Positron and Pair Production
The image illustrates particle pair production(γ —> e- +e+) , showing the track of an electron (e-)and a positron (e+). The existence of this antimatter particle was a direct theoretical consequence of P.A.M. Dirac's equation from 1928, commonly expressed as:

The negative energy solutions of this equation led to the prediction of the positron. Carl Anderson experimentally confirmed the positron in cosmic rays in 1932. Dirac shared the 1933 Nobel Prize in Physics for this theoretical work, and Anderson shared the 1936 Nobel Prize for the experimental discovery.
Chinese scientist Zhao Zhongyao discovered the high-energy photon beam of hard γ-rays in 1929, with his findings published in the American journal Physical Review in 1930 under the title "Scattering of Hard γ-Rays." He was the first person to observe the phenomenon of electron-positron pair production and annihilation.
